Wells in three Central Corfu communities run dry
CORFU. The areas of Kato Garouna, Ag. Gordios, Gastouri and Perama are in a state of emergency. The mayor has ordered DEYAK to immediately drill new, deeper wells.
There is a lack of water in villages of Central Corfu Municipality in the middle of heatwaves and the tourist season, as the wells have dried up in these areas.
The areas of Kato Garouna, Ag. Gordios, Gastouri and Perama are facing an emergency situation. For this reason, Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos has urgently requested DEYAK, in a written document, to immediately drill new, deeper wells, hoping to find sufficient water to meet the needs.
According to the official update from the Central Municipality, the three wells in Kato Garouna, two out of three in Graves Gastouri, and one in Voutes, Kynopiastes, which have been supplying water for decades, have dried up.
In its urgent announcement, the municipality stated that, until new wells are drilled, everyone affected by this unprecedented situation is urged to show understanding and explore any alternative options available. For areas still receiving limited water supply, residents are asked to avoid wastage and use water prudently under these emergency conditions.
