CORFU. Laboratory doctors are continuing their protests, objecting to the clawback and the rebate.

Microbiological laboratories in Corfu will remain closed at least until next Saturday, as laboratory doctors have decided to continue their protests for another week, from May 20 to 25.

The decision was made during the Nationwide Online Meeting of self-employed Laboratory Doctors on Friday (May 17), which was attended by more than 800 doctors from across the country.

The continuation of the protests, which began on May 8, was decided after an unsuccessful meeting between representatives of the country's laboratory doctors and the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, as their demands for a reduction of the clawback and all the burdensome measures that create artificial debts in their practices (e.g., rebate) were not accepted.

Necessary microbiological tests are currently being conducted only at the island's Health Centres and the Hospital. The President of the Corfu Medical Association, Dimitris Kaloudis, stated that an exception is made for the radiology departments of private centres not affiliated with EOPYY, which are serving insured patients as usual.

The laboratory doctors will decide whether to continue their protests on Friday, May 24.

Corfu Medical Association supports protests

In a statement from the Corfu Medical Association, it is highlighted that "The Corfu Medical Association, following a unanimous decision by the Board of Directors on April 23, supports the protests of private laboratory doctors and will issue a new press release if there is any further development."
