CORFU. "Contrary to the reports on the online platform, Mirror.co.uk, and others, there is no confirmed outbreak of whooping cough in Corfu, and particularly originating from a hotel in Paleokastritsa."

In response to recent misleading reports circulating in some media outlets, the authorities and tourism stakeholders in Corfu would like to clarify the reality regarding an alleged outbreak of whooping cough here.

Contrary to the sensational reports on the online platform Mirror.co.uk and others, there is no confirmed outbreak of whooping cough in Corfu, particularly originating from a hotel in Paleokastritsa. Moreover, the latest report from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) does not include Greece among the countries with an excessive level of whooping cough cases. Additionally, the Greek Ministry of Health has confirmed that any increase in cases is not exceptional compared to other European countries and is certainly lower than that of many countries with smaller populations.

We would like to stress that Corfu Hospital administration has explicitly confirmed that there are no reports of whooping cough on the island. The health authorities here maintain strict monitoring and reporting systems, and there are no indications of such an outbreak. Furthermore, the paediatric clinic is adequately equipped and staffed to meet the needs of the local population and visitors.

Corfu remains a safe and hospitable destination for visitors. Our tourism facilities strictly adhere to health and safety protocols, ensuring the well-being of both visitors and locals. With the upcoming tourist season underway, we want to assure our guests that they can enjoy their holidays in Corfu with peace of mind and safety.

We urge the media to operate ethically, verifying their information and cross-referencing it with reliable sources before publishing potentially harmful false information. False impressions can have significant consequences for local economies and the lives of many people dependent on tourism, while unnecessarily burdening visitors with anxiety.

The charm, hospitality, and natural beauty of Corfu await visitors, and we look forward to welcoming them to our island, offering them an unforgettable experience.
