Corfu Car Club proposes creation of multi-purpose motor sport venue
CORFU. To the local government bodies - They received a positive response.
The Corfu Car Club made a proposal for the creation of a multi-purpose motor sport venue in Corfu at an event that took place on Saturday 16 December to inform the public and the local government bodies.
The proposal, which links the needs of motor sports with the promotion of road safety, provides for the construction of a modern kart track, a corresponding dirt track, an asphalt parking space, which will also be used for safe driving seminars, and a traffic education park for children.
The objectives of the proposal were presented in detail - the benefits it has to offer in terms of training old, new and future drivers, the promotion of the sport, for which the training space is often public roads, and the additional benefits to the tourist and local economy sectors.
Standard parameters, operating models and elements of economic viability and profitability were mentioned. Finally, the Car Club made it clear that it does not claim the concession of the area or its appropriation. The business model could follow the example of the track in Serres or it could be contracted out entirely to a private party.
On behalf of the Club, Spyros Kontogeorgis stated the following: "The positive response from the bodies of the Region and the North Corfu Municipality who were present and in favour of our proposal, gives us the strength to intensify our efforts to the extent that we deserve.
The people of Corfu have already declared their support through the collection of signatures, while both the Traffic Police Chief and local motor sports athletes have spoken in favour of the proposal.
Finally, because we believe that such a proposal does not only concern Corfu but the whole of Greece due to serious road safety issues, we intend to forward it to both the relevant Federation and the relevant Ministries in the hope that it will receive similar support.
