CORFU. The focus of the discussion was the progress achieved in this collaboration and the next steps to be taken.

(Ionian University) The excellent collaboration between the Ionian University and the UTHealth Houston (The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston) was selected to be presented in the online discussion held on Tuesday 14 November at 18:00, on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the Pharos Summit. The discussion was coordinated by Study in Greece and the Institute of International Education (IIE) and its focus was the progress achieved in the collaboration between Greek and American universities and the next steps of this collaboration.

During the meeting, only four Greek-American university collaborations were presented - one of them was the collaboration of the Ionian University with UTHealth Houston. Informatics Department Professor Panayiotis Vlamos and the Professor from UTHealth Houston, Paul Schulz, spoke in detail about the collaboration. The ongoing project focuses on the investigation and evaluation of new biomarkers as risk factors for the development of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRDs).

The collaboration is also aiming at the establishment of Alzheimer’s Disease Sequencing Project in Greece, but also a large-scale, digital multinational biobank, as well as at education transfer plans in specialised know-how between the two institutions.

The conclusion of Sylvia Jons from IIE was that the clear objectives, the distinct roles of the two research groups and the sustainability of the Ionian University at the anniversary event are evident in this collaboration. The Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, International Relations and Extraversion Ekaterini Kabassi also participated in the anniversary event on behalf of the Ionian University.

Following the completion of the Pharos Summit last year and the visit of the American universities to Greece, the Ionian University opened its office in New York, while it has already developed partnerships with the University of Kentucky, the University of Alabama, the George Mason University and the Queens College of New York.
