Corfu Hospital carries out fire and earthquake drill

CORFU. Corfu Hospital carried out a large-scale drill with the participation of medical personnel, the Fire Department, the Ambulance Service (EKAB), and the Red Cross.

Corfu Hospital carried out an emergency drill yesterday evening. The exercise had a specific scenario, focusing on addressing seismic events and fires, and was conducted under the supervision of the National Centre for Emergency Medical Assistance/Operations Health Unit (EKAV/KEPY) with the assistance of "Filion" Forces. Medical personnel from the hospital, the Fire Department, the Ambulance Service (EKAB), the Red Cross, and volunteers participated under the guidance of Corfu Hospital Director, Manto Egglezopoulou.

It was a demanding exercise with the goal of coordinating all involved parties in circumstances that cannot be predicted in advance.

 

The scenario included:

A) Fire outbreak in the Emergency Department, smoke entering the Intensive Care Unit (due to shattered windows), and potential infiltration into the Operating Theatres.

B) Airlift of two patients, with the Ambulance Service, from the Intensive Care Unit.

C) Deployment of an Outdoor Triage in front of the hospital.

D) Transportation of two patients by stretcher, two patients by wheelchair, and three walking patients from the Emergency Department to the Outdoor Triage.

E) Transfer of a surgical patient from the Operating Theatre to the Surgical Clinic.

F) Evacuation of the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and Operating Theatres for walking patients.

G) Extrication of two trapped employees from rooftops.
