CORFU. For the 4th year running the radar station in Agii Deka held an Open Radar Day, organised by Corfu Civil Aviation Authority Employees Union.

Dozens of families, scouts, children and adults were initiated into the "secrets" of the radar station at Agii Deka during the Open Radar Day, a guided tour day inside the radar facilities.

For the 4th year running, Corfu Civil Aviation Authority Employees Union organised the Radar Open Day - an open day for visiting the facilities of the radar station at Agii Deka yesterday morning, as part of the celebration of International Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel Day, celebrated every year on November 12.

The turnout exceeded all expectations. Dimitris Roussos, the President of Corfu Civil Aviation Authority Employees Union, said, "We really didn't expect such a turnout! Even the area outside proved to be insufficient to accommodate the number of cars that visited us...".

Visitors, in addition to the stunning view from the altitude of 600 metres, had the opportunity to observe up close the operation of the radar facility, learn about the aviation systems supported by Air Traffic Safety Electronics, and tour facilities, which first started operating in 2000.

The functioning of the radar system, its usage, the procedures of flight and aircraft approach at Corfu Airport, the automations, the new technologies, and also the meteorological radar of Athens National Observatory, were some of the things that the visitors could experience up close.
