Meropi Ydraiou closes chapter of €6m cleaning contract
CORFU. Meropi Ydraiou: "It would be unethical and unfair to bind the new municipal authority to a new tender that it does not want."
The chapter of the €6m contract for the collection of waste, against which 10 councillors and two workers' unions had submitted an appeal, which was accepted by the Decentralised Administration, is officially closing.
Although the municipal authority then appealed to the No. 152 Committee against the annulment decision and was vindicated, today the outgoing Mayor announced that the tender would not go ahead as it would be unethical to bind the next municipal authority to it.
"As far as the waste collection is concerned, the tender which has already been challenged by members of the new municipal authority, which means that they do not want it, will not continue. It would be unethical and unfair to bind the new municipal authority to a new tender that they do not want. The new municipal authority can make its own choices from 1 January 2024," said Meropi Ydraiou.
Regarding the transportation of waste, however, as Meropi Ydraiou pointed out, the current contract has been extended until 31 December 2023 and a request has already been submitted for another year.
