CORFU. This pioneering and necessary for Corfu project is being implemented by the Ionian University Informatics Department΄s Computer Modelling Lab.

The benefits of the implementation of the SAVEWATER project were presented today in an open to the public informative event. It is a strategic project of the Ionian Islands Regional Authority, which is part of the Interreg Greece-Albania programme and is being implemented in collaboration with the Ionian University Informatics Department, DEYAK and universities and institutions of northwestern Greece and Albania.

Save Water aims at the adoption of new technologies and methodologies in the management of water for general use, good practice and best response to the pressures on the water table for irrigation and water supply.

The research includes, amongst others, the measurement of water pumped at source, in the tank, in the network and at the end user. The results will lead to leak detection and better water management.

This pioneering and necessary for Corfu project is being implemented by the Ionian University Informatics Department's Computer Modelling Lab.

The event took place at the Ionian University History Department amphitheatre, Ioannou Theotoki 72, in the presence of the Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa. The scientific manager of the project, Professor Markos Avlonitis, opened the event and then the results of the research were presented:

- Check and immediate update of the water supply network by Marios Anagnostou, project team member.

- Low-cost sensors for water management by Ioannis Vlachos, PhD candidate.

- SAVEWATER app by Marios Anagnostou, project team member.

The following are participating in the Save Water project: Ionian Islands Region, Epirus Region, Regional Council of Vlora, Regional Council of Koritsa, Environmental Centre of Western Macedonia Region, Corfu DEYA, Ioannina DEYA, Ionian University Research Committee, University of Applied Sciences of Western Macedonia, School of Engineering, Environmental and Pollution Control Engineering Department and Environmental Chemistry and Wastewater Treatment Lab.

The 'Save Water - Improvement in the management of water and supply infrastructure through smart technology, policies and tools' project is being implemented as part of the Interreg IPA CBC Programme Greece- Albania 2014-2020 and is co-funded by the European Union and National Resources.
