Situation at Corfu Airport easing

CORFU. Repair work on two areas of subsidence on the runway is in progress.
The situation at Corfu Airport has improved today following yesterday's issues with the operation of the Air Traffic Management system, initially in the UK and then in Italy, which affected several European countries, including Greece.
Dimitris Roussos, President of Corfu Civil Aviation Employees Union, told Enimerosi that the situation has started to normalise at the airport since Monday evening.
Nevertheless, from early yesterday afternoon until 8:30 in the evening, there were significant delays, and due to the problems, six British flights were cancelled, causing inconvenience to over 1,000 passengers.
"The situation has started to improve, but the impact is having a domino effect, affecting the schedules of the airlines for at least two days," Mr. Roussos stated.
Another two cases of subsidence
Meanwhile, according to Mr. Roussos, two additional cases of subsidence have appeared. Apart from the initial one on the aircraft parking apron, which has already been repaired, making two parking spots for airplanes available again. This time, the subsidence has been observed at separate points on the runway, causing slight delays in flight operations. Repair work is in progress to address the issues that have arisen.
It should be noted that Corfu Airport has eight arrivals per hour, but currently, arrivals are at seven per hour.
Today, a total of 71 flights are expected, of which 19 are from the UK.
