CORFU. On the initiative of board member Vassilis Vassilakis, the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen and Merchants (GSEVEE) has sent a letter.

On the initiative of board member Vassilis Vassilakis, the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen and Merchants (GSEVEE) sent a letter to the responsible Ministers of Finance, Employment and Tourism regarding the damages suffered by tourist businesses from the wildfire in Old Perithia.

It should be noted that in the historic traditional village of Old Perithia, seven businesses are operating, which have suffered damages both from the destruction of their products and from lost income due to the significant decrease in the number of visitors to the damaged area.

The letter requests the immediate implementation of measures to support the affected businesses through financial assistance.

The president of the Catering Association, Vassilis Vassilakis, told Enimerosi that there has already been telecommunication with the Ministry of Finance, which is considering the solution of tax reliefs for the specific professionals who have been affected, or even their inclusion in a Ministry of Development programme.

The response from the Ministry of Tourism:

"We would like to inform you that we are taking all the issues raised in your letter seriously and thank you for the information.

Although measures for the restoration of damages due to natural disasters do not fall within the scope of the Ministry of Tourism's responsibilities, our goal and immediate priority are to return to tourist normality and to create a positive image of the affected areas."
