New Corfu Town traffic regulations in force from 8p.m. today

CORFU. Where you can park. Parking permits for permanent residents of the historic centre are still available.

The new traffic regulations in the historic centre of Corfu Town come into force today until 27 August from 20:00 to 24:00.

From 8 p.m. until midnight only the following vehicles will be allowed access to the historic centre of Corfu Town:

a) Permanent residents, motorcycles, taxis and urban and tourist buses.

b) Vehicles for people with disabilities, police, firefighters and ambulances.

c) Emergencies and special cases.

The access points for vehicles exempted from the restriction are the Douglas Column, for those heading towards Spianada, and Eleftheriou Venizelou at the New Fortress moat for those heading towards Spilia.

 

Parking areas

In order to help facilitate the traffic measures, a free parking area will operate in Corfu Port for those coming from the North. Entry and exit to the parking area will be exclusively via the roundabout at the new port. The area will be available for free parking from 20:00 to 02:00.

For those coming from the South and Central Corfu, the National Sports Centre and space in front of the First Cemetery will be available. An urban bus service will pass every 20 minutes going to the town centre.

 

The new regulations

Traffic will be diverted at the following points:

(a) Eleftheriou Venizelou and Lohagou Vlaikou (moat): Vehicles will be diverted to Lochagou Vlaikou.

(b) Stamatiou Desylla and Georgiou Theotoki (pedestrian zone): Vehicles coming from Lohagou Vlaikou towards Stamatiou Desylla will be diverted to Georgiou Theotoki (San Rocco).

(c) Alexandras Ave. and Georgiou Theotoki: Vehicles will not be able to approach Georgiou Theotoki from San Rocco Square.

(d) Alexandras Ave. and Rizospaston Voulefton (Post Office). Vehicles will not be allowed to enter Rizospaston Voulefton from Alexandras Ave.

 

(e) Dimokratias Ave. and Alexandras Ave.: Vehicles on Dimokratias Ave. will be diverted to Alexandras Ave.

(f) Vraila Armeni and Dinou Theotoki (museum): Vehicles on Vraila Armeni will be diverted to Dinou Theotoki.

Traffic police will be present at key points in order to implement the measures, supplemented by employees of the Municipality's Civil Protection Service.

Permanent residents

Permanent residents who haven't yet obtained their permit can contact the Municipal Daily Affairs Department, located at 3 Kalohairetou Street (09:00- 14:00). The required documents are as follows: Application/Affidavit, a copy of their E1 tax form and a photocopy of their Identity Card.

Up to today, a total of 1,000 permits have been issued.
