Stones thrown at Athens-Corfu bus

CORFU. The vehicle parked in a safe location and the approximately 40 passengers were transferred to Corfu by a bus operated by Corinth KTEL.

On Wednesday morning, August 2nd, a Corfu KTEL Intercity bus was attacked with stones by unknown individuals while it was en route from Athens to Corfu.

The incident occurred one hour after the bus's departure on the new Athens-Patras national highway, near the area of Zevgolatio in Corinthia. Suddenly, the approximately 40 passengers and the driver heard loud noises from the impacts of the stones on the front windshield and side windows.

According to reports, the driver was hit in the face by glass fragments but, fortunately, he was wearing sunglasses and did not suffer further injuries.

 

Bus taken to safe location

The bus was taken to a safe location and the passengers disembarked. Immediately, a bus from Corinth KTEL was notified and rushed to the scene to pick up the passengers and transfer them to Corfu.

The President of Corfu KTEL Intercity, Mr. Tsiboulis, told Enimerosi that the police were informed and took all the necessary actions. The bus was transported to Athens, where it remains for the repair of the broken windows.

"Some irresponsible individuals throw stones at buses," sais Mr. Tsimboulis. "According to information we have from other KTEL companies, similar incidents have occurred in Patra, Ileia and elsewhere. The windshield of the bus was damaged and the rear side windows were shattered."

The 40 passengers arrived safely in Corfu on Wednesday evening, with a one-hour delay.
