CORFU. Ms. Masoura contacted the Corfu Prosecutor΄s Office regarding the matter, while an investigation has already been initiated into the violation of the unfortunate animal΄s welfare.

The Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Anastasia Masoura also intervened in the case of the horse's death in Corfu, which has caused a storm of protest.

Ms. Masoura contacted the Corfu Prosecutor's Office regarding this matter, and an investigation has already been initiated into the violation of the welfare of the unfortunate animal, which was forced to transport tourists during prohibited hours.

As reported by local authorities to the Corfu Prosecutor's Office, the transportation of tourists, visitors, etc., by horse and carriage is not permitted between 13:30 and 17:00. The incident in question occurred around 14:00. Furthermore, there have been allegations that the carriage exceeded the allowed number of tourists, and the 76-year-old owner, before the animal collapsed due to exhaustion, used the whip extensively on an uphill stretch to speed up the horse's pace.

In addition to the ongoing investigation by the prosecuting authorities, further inquiries are being conducted to determine whether the unfortunate horse had undergone veterinary examination.

Apart from the ongoing judicial investigation, the owner of the horse has been fined €30,000 for violating animal welfare legislation, and has already been arrested as part of the investigation conducted by the Corfu Police Department under the supervision of the local Prosecutor. The arrested individual will be brought to appear before the competent prosecuting authority.

Furthermore, the judicial investigation is expected to extend to the conditions under which the other horses, used by the same owner for this purpose, are kept.
