CORFU. 6 and 7 May. Record number of participants from 24 countries.

The Corfu Mountain Trail has now become regular event and will be held on the weekend of May 6th and 7th this year with races that will cover most of the island. At a press conference, Central Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou said that 600 runners from 24 countries will be taking part.

The record number of participants, the great response, and the desire to have an even better-quality race demonstrates the interest of the organisers, as well as the importance of the event. This year, there will be races of 100km, 44km and 24km on Saturday and a 12km race on Sunday.

Mayor Meropi Ydraiou and Vassilis Alamanos, on behalf of Corfu Mountain Trail, made the following statements:

Vassilis Alamanos

We are ready to hold the 11th Corfu Mountain Trail. We have made changes to this year's event and we will finish in the historic centre of Corfu Town, while passing through the most famous landmarks of our island, such as Achilleion, Pontikonisi, Mon Repos, and finishing in the historic centre.

We are particularly excited because this year we have a record number of participants. We thank the local authorities, our municipality, and everyone who is helping with this challenging task involving 100-kilometre trails, as well as all the local community presidents and councils who are assisting with this.

The programme starts on Saturday morning at 6 a.m. with the start of the 100km race from Ipsos at 3 p.m., from Ermones we will have the start of the 44km race and at 5 p.m. from Kinopiastes the start of the 24km race. The races will finish from the afternoon until late at night in the central square, where athletes from the various distances will finish.

It will be a celebration that will continue on Sunday when the 12km run will be held for most of our fellow citizens who want to join in the spirit, and for our children who can experience the joy of the race, which had been cancelled in previous years due to coronavirus.

Mayor Meropi Ydraiou

The races are taking place for the 11th consecutive year, under the auspices of our municipality and in collaboration with Corfu Mountain Trail, whom we thank. It is a fruitful partnership that has been crowned with success, and our goals have been achieved.

We thank you, the sports clubs, the volunteers, the local councils, and all the organisations that participate and contribute to making the event successful every time. With this race, we promote sports, the sporting ideal, and we showcase the beautiful natural environment of Corfu.

It is a celebration of sports, nature, and culture. This year, we have 600 participants from 24 countries, and in addition to the adult races, we also have a children's race in which children participate, not only from here, but also from the rest of the country and abroad. We have the honour of having Mr. Franco Collé, the champion, with us this year.

Franco Collé was present at the press conference and said that this is the second time he has come to this beautiful island and he will run in the100km race this year. He said that he is happy because he likes nature, the mountains, and he praised the quality of the Corfu Mountain Trail.
