CORFU. None of them have given in to pressure to sign their agreement to the new additional fee - They are demanding the delimitation of the anchorage outside the harbour.

The professionals who operate tourist boats in Alipa harbour remain in limbo following the new "cap" of €5 per customer demanded by the company managing the marina. The marina passed into the hands of Home Center Management 1 in October 2021, in exchange for an annual rent of €300,000.

The professionals went to the Corfu Regional Office today to protest and discuss their problem with the Deputy Regional Governor Kostas Zorbas. The marina is used every summer by 400 or more boats.

According to Spyros Vradis, a representative of those running small boat day trips in Paleokastritsa, the professionals met with the Deputy Regional Governor. "He himself declared that it isn't his responsibility, but assured us that he will do whatever is possible to help us," said Mr. Vradis.

Nobody has signed

The professionals have refused to sign the contract imposed on them by the company, which they describe as extortionate, while they now demand the delimitation of the anchorage, outside the harbour. They have not yet received a response from the Port Authority, and neither have the discussions between the Municipality and the harbour investor had any result. "As everyone tells us, we will have to resort to legal action," Mr. Vradis declared.

Giorgos Karydis: The contract must be denounced

Present at the protest of the Alipa professionals, declaring his support, was Giorgos Karydis, municipal councilor and leader of the Kerkyraiki Simmahia party. "When we made the decision at the Municipal Council for the concession of the port, we had set as a precondition the protection of the rights of the workers in the area who have been working there for 30 years now," said Mr. Karydis. "My legal and political opinion is that if the investor insists and does not back down, the Municipality must denounce the contract and return the harbour to the previous state."
