CORFU. The hostel will offer accommodation, safety and psychological and social support for victims of violence.

On Tuesday, April 18th, the women's shelter that provides support for women who are victims of gender-based violence and multiple discrimination will reopen its doors. The operation of this valuable facility had been suspended in recent years.

Following the completion of personnel recruitment through ASEP and the renovation of the space, the facility will once again be able to support women, along with their children if they have any, to help them get back on their feet and smoothly reintegrate into society.

The purpose of the hostel is to provide accommodation, safety, psychological and social support through its specialised, scientific staff, as well as support in integrating into the job market.

The Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality, with funding from ESPA, as part of the "National Programme for Gender Equality 2010-2013", is implementing the Act "Operation of structures and services of Local Government for the benefit of women and for the fight against violence - Operation of a shelter in the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands" and is included in the Operational Programme "Ionian Islands 2014-2020".

The programme is part of an integrated action programme of the General Secretariat for Demographic and Family Policy and Gender Equality and includes a network of structures to address violence against women, such as the SOS 15900 helpline, local counselling centres and shelters for the provision of information, psychosocial and legal counselling assistance to women who are victims of gender-based violence and multiple discrimination.
