CORFU. "Whoever the Corfu Gymnastics Association reached out to in the last 42 years, it received only promises".
The Corfu Gymnastics Association was satisfied to be informed of the invitation for tenders for the construction of an indoor training centre in Alykes.
Statement from the Association:
Excitement, joy, enthusiasm and optimism. And the optimism is justified now, as whoever the Corfu Gymnastics Association reached out to in the last 42 years, it received only promises.
The vision, planning and implementation of the association's long-standing agents to buy the plot of land with the aim of building sports facilities and the years of effort for the necessary "maturation" of the project, in order to ensure the necessary licences, studies and the building permit, proves that it was not at all unnecessary!
Immediately after taking up her duties, the Central Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou addressed the Association management and let them know that she wanted the Municipality to carry out this important for the local community sports project. In fact, she did that at a time when other institutional bodies responded that the project "is huge" or that "we will include it in the next ESPA programme".
With work, methodology, perseverance and patience, the efforts of the Mayor and her partners, overcoming dozens of obstacles, had a happy ending, not only in terms of the project's inclusion in a programme, but also in the publication of the invitation for tenders for the selection of the contractor.
The vindication of the Association's efforts (having a complete study file) for modern and adequate sports facilities is an example of the agents, members, athletes and coaches' responsibility to continue to offer to the Corfu society in many ways.
130 years of continuous offer that emerges from a huge legacy and is unified through a common cultural history with our town, but maintained above all with the zeal and vision of the younger people in this historic association!
