CORFU. The establishment of regional clinics at the Police Headquarters in 13 big cities is an initiative of the Hellenic Police.
The Regional Council voted by a majority the establishment of a regional clinic at the Corfu Police Headquarters to meet the needs of police officers.
The establishment of regional clinics at the Police Headquarters in 13 big cities is an initiative of the Hellenic Police, as part of the upgrade of health services offered to its personnel and their family members. The regional clinics will be staffed with scientific personnel specialising in pathology, psychiatry and psychology, while the tender for the recruitment of 60 private individuals as Special Duty Officers has already been announced by the Citizen Protection Ministry.
At the Police Headquarters
The Police proposed that the regional clinic in Corfu be housed at the back of the Police Headquarters in an existing 111.79 m² building. An initial study for the reconstruction and layout of the ground floor has been prepared. However, the assistance of the Region was requested for the funding of the €74,400 work.
The Deputy Regional Governor for Public Health and Welfare Melita Andrioti introduced the issue yesterday at the Regional Council meeting in Lefkada, in order for the contract between the Regional Authority and the Ministry of Citizen Protection for the implementation of the project to be approved.
The work
The work to turn the ground floor into a clinic includes removal of sections of the wall, dismantling of doors and windows, plasterwork, floor coverings, indoor wooden doors, glass doors, paintwork, false ceiling and full electrical and plumbing installation.
The Ionian Islands Region's responsible services will carry out the tender procedures, while the Corfu Technical Services Department will be the implementing body.
The project has to be completed in 39 months, as the stages required to complete the project are very time-consuming. In fact, only the procedures from the announcement of the tender to the signing of the contract with the project contractor require 13 months.
It is worth noting that both active and retired police officers from all the Ionian Islands, as well as their families, can go to the regional clinic at the Corfu Police Headquarters.
In fact, one of the two psychologists who will staff it has already been appointed, providing his services to anyone who needs it.
