CORFU. The Ionian Islands Region will update the study - The Finance Committee approved the tender terms for the selection of the person who will prepare the study.
The Ionian Islands Region will update the study of the Skripero bypass, as the Finance Committee approved at the recent meeting the tender terms for the selection of the person who will prepare it. This project has been dragging on for about 15 years now.
As the Deputy Regional Governor for Technical Works and Infrastructure Manolis Orphanoudakis told Enimerosi, it is a project included in the ESPA 2021-2027 programme, while the Argyrades bypass will follow very soon.
"The updating of the €200,000 study for the Skripero bypass is going to be implemented. For the current Regional Authority, the updating of the studies of the four bypasses is a priority. We are proceeding to update them because they are old, while there are also land problems and that is why there is a delay," he said.

In particular, the study for the Skripero bypass concerns the update of the following:
- Traffic studies
- Technical works
- Geotechnical works studies
- Hydraulic works studies
- Electromechanical studies
- Supporting studies for all the above projects
The Skripero bypass started as a preliminary study in 2002, it was approved in 2004, it was finalised in 2008 and was included in the ESPA 2007-2013 programme with €7 million. However, the project was excluded from the programme in 2012 due to the many doubts and objections of the then Paleokastritsa Municipality. The objections had to do with the risk of flooding.
In 2011, an attempt was made to change the study in order to address the problem, which had been highlighted by the Municipal Council and the residents of the area. However, the high cost of changing the study, which would have amounted to approximately €11 million, has led to the project being bogged down ever since.
