CORFU. The volunteers are working with the search and rescue teams in the areas hit by the earthquakes.
Thirty trained volunteers from the Greek Rescue Team (EOD) from all over Greece, including two from the Corfu branch, are travelling from Thessaloniki with a search dog and special equipment to assist in search and rescue operations in areas hit by the recent earthquakes in Turkey.
The Greek Rescue Team mission is expected to arrive in Istanbul today and from there will fly to Adana along with members of the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Response team (AFAD) with whom they will work together.
The equipment the EOD volunteers will be using includes hydraulic rescue tools, extrication tools, thermal cameras, hazardous gas detectors, generators, telecommunications equipment, stretchers, defibrillators and other first aid equipment. All members also have the necessary personal protection equipment.
The Turkish Consulate in Thessaloniki and the Turkish Embassy in Athens are supporting the mission and EOD have expressed their warm thanks. EOD also thanks Christina Aspropotamiti for her full support and everyone else helping to make the mission possible.
