The Central Corfu Municipality has started the preparations and has contacted cultural associations, unions, bodies and schools to better plan and organise the events.
The Deputy Mayor for Culture Chrysoula Tombrou told Enimerosi that the official announcement of the Carnival programme is expected to be made in the coming days, noting that even groups can participate in the carnival events. "Everyone is welcome. There is already great response from bodies, associations and unions for the events we are planning," said Mrs. Tombrou.
The opening ceremony
The official opening ceremony of the Corfu Carnival will take place on Sunday 5 February outside the San Giacomo Old Town Hall, with many surprises for the public.
From that day and almost every day, different events will take place until the big carnival parade on February 26.
In the meantime, the Municipality's programme will include several more events, in which the Corfu Events Organisation, the Likio Ellinidon, as well as other cultural associations will take part.
Tsiknopempti
On the afternoon of Tsiknopempti (16 February) a big celebration with plenty of wine and souvlaki for everyone will take place in San Rocco Square. On Saturday 18 February, Corfu Maskarata will be organising the famous Treasure Hunt.
Petegoletsa on February 23
The 'Petegoletsa' will be organised by the Corfu Events Organisation on Thursday 23 February at 19:00 in Corfu Old Town. The actors have already started rehearsals.
Carnival parades
The Corfu Carnival will of course include two parades where both young and old will participate to spread the fun.
The first parade will take place on 19 February (starting from the Evg. Voulgareos pedestrian precinct), while a week later, on 26 February, there will be a big parade.
