CORFU. See this weekend΄s programme.

The scheduled Carnival events and Clean Monday activities in communities of the Municipality of North Corfu are as follows:

TYRINI SUNDAY – FEBRUARY 22

Karousades – Velonades, Time: 15:00

CLEAN MONDAY – FEBRUARY 23

Avliotes – Peroulades, Time: 15:00

Everyone is invited to participate in the events with enthusiasm and optimism, to have a wonderful time, safely but with an increased sense of responsibility. However, due to the severe weather phenomena of recent days and the damage recorded on the road network as well as in coastal and remote areas, we urge everyone to exercise INCREASED caution.

Recommendations for Increased Caution and Safety:

  • Avoid approaching or remaining in steep areas and slopes, as there is a risk of landslides at any time.

  • Avoid travelling through areas where soil erosion or ground subsidence has been observed.

  • In several parts of the road network, cavities and damage (“hollowing” of roads) have formed that are not visible, despite ongoing repair efforts.

  • Drivers should keep safe distances and travel at low speeds with increased attention.

  • Particular caution is required in areas of the roadway where standing water or increased rainwater flow is observed, as due to the recent heavy rainfall, full restoration of road damage has not been possible.

  • In some cases, water may cover potholes, cracks, or localised subsidence that are not visible to drivers.

  • Avoid parking vehicles under slopes, rocks, or large trees.

  • Exercise particular caution during nighttime travel, as much of the road damage is not easily visible.

  • Avoid accessing undeveloped paths and improvised routes to beaches or hills.

  • Ensure continuous supervision of minors in coastal and steep areas.

  • Avoid crowding in areas with eroded ground.

  • In case of strong winds or new rainfall, move away from areas with a history of landslides.

  • Immediately inform the competent authorities of any dangerous changes in the ground or road surface.

Areas Requiring Special Attention:

  • Agios Stefanos (Avliotes) (entire length), Avliotes, Afionas, Loggas, Drastis, Arillas, the coastal road axis Roda – Acharavi

  • Coastal road of Agios Georgios Pagon (near the administrative boundaries of Afionas–Kavvadades), Kassiopi – Avlaki

Along the municipality’s coastal road axis, incidents of subsoil undermining due to marine erosion have been recorded, combined with the recent heavy rainfall.

The damage is primarily located on the sea-facing side and in some areas is not visible on the surface, which may cause sudden localised road subsidence.

For this reason:

  • Travel at low speed

  • Avoid stopping or parking vehicles on the sea-facing side of the road

  • Strictly follow road signs and the instructions of the competent authorities

The Civil Protection Department of the Municipality of North Corfu and technical crews are continuing inspections and restoration work; however, erosion phenomena may change suddenly. Prevention and heightened caution are essential conditions for everyone’s safety.
