CORFU. The unanimously accepted amendment by Makis Voridis covers all those who were in danger of losing their jobs in all three municipalities of the island.

The 19 Corfu 'Help at Home' employees who were in danger of losing their jobs have breathed a sigh of relief, as all of them will be made permanent with the Voridis amendment that passed last night.

Efi Vlachou, a representative of the employees, told Enimerosi that the amendment is covering all the Corfu employees who were in danger of losing their jobs. This is a very positive development and now only the procedures for the completion of their recruitment are left.

These are 8 employees of the programme in the Central Corfu Municipality, 4 in the South Corfu Municipality and 7 in the North Corfu Municipality.

Their positions were threatened after the Council of State obstructed their re-employment by cancelling an advertisement by ASEP.

Over 500 beneficiaries

In addition to the loss of these people's income, the removal of 19 people would create serious problems to the programme that serves over 500 beneficiaries who lack a supportive environment.

KEDE had also made interventions to the Ministry of Interior to preserve the jobs. Thus, the issue was resolved by the amendment that was accepted by all parties in the parliament.

The amendment

The amendment provides that by decision of the Minister of Interior, 2,909 jobs of regular staff will be allocated to the local authorities.

The candidates

Candidates who had submitted an online application to participate in the procedure and were included in the advertisement's ranking lists but not in the final lists, will be recruited to regular positions of the municipalities concerned and of the same field and specialty corresponding to the position for which they applied.
