CORFU. School pupils sent Christmas cards to the students at Corfu Prison ΄Second Chance΄ school.

Junior High School teacher Liana Tsiridou went to the Corfu Prison ΄Second Chance΄ school Christmas celebration to hand over cards sent by her pupils.

"It was very moving," she said. "I went as a 'postman' to the Corfu Prison ΄Second Chance΄ school Christmas celebration to deliver cards written for the inmate students by 3rd year pupils and chocolates sent by the 2nd year pupils.

I also came back as a 'postman' delivering the cards sent in reply by the inmates and to convey their joy at receiving the small gifts, the warm handshakes and the expressions in their eyes showing how moved they were.

These are some of the comments made by the inmate students:

"I've never had a gift like this in my life."
"I thank you from the bottom of my heart"
"It's so beautiful to know that someone is thinking of us"
"In ten years I've never received a message from the outside world"
"The children have brightened these difficult times"
"You've given us a window without bars today"

I'd also like to convey to you the great work that is being done at this special school in the prison. It combines the passion of the teachers, the valuable assistance of the guards, the determination of the inmates/students to make the most of this second chance and the network of people on the outside with their constant support.
