CORFU. There was a memorial for the young man who is still ΄alive΄ in those whose lives were saved thanks to the donation of his organs.
Five years have passed since 19-year-old Christos Kourkoulos tragically lost his life. The young man who then saved the lives of several others thanks to the generous decision of his family to donate his organs.
The road accident in Agia Ekaterini five years ago led to the death of two people - 17-year-old Ervin Bekiri died immediately and 19-year-old Christos survived for two weeks in the ICU.
His parents, Nikos and Georgia, and his three siblings then said: "Yes, our Christos would have wanted to help others and to save their lives even through his own death."
It was the first time that there was such a major donation of organs at Corfu Hospital through the efforts of the ICU doctors and the hospital administration - and by an incredible coincidence, November 1st is the National Day for Organ Donation and Transplantation.
Yesterday, his family and friends held a memorial service at Kontokali Cemetery for the 5th anniversary of his death - at his grave, which always has fresh flowers and his green crash helmet.
They paid their respects to the young man who is still ΄alive΄ in those whose lives were saved thanks to the donation of his organs.
