CORFU. The internationally renowned fashion designer Mónika Czédly has created two exact replicas of Princess Sissy’s gowns, which people can admire in the gardens of the Achillion Palace.

The Achillion Museum opened yesterday, Tuesday 1 June, and it will remain open until 30 September. During this period, visitors will have the opportunity to admire two exact replicas of Princess Sissy’s gowns in the gardens of the Achillion Palace created by the internationally renowned fashion designer Mónika Czédly, who recently visited the Achillion Palace for the first time and was impressed.

The Princess’s gowns, worn by models who will roam the Palace gardens, will be available to the public daily from 10:00 to 16:00.

The Blue Gown

The Blue Gown was auctioned in Vienna in 2012 and it dates back to 1890. Following a study, it was found that it was part of the Princess’s actual wardrobe, thanks to a label on the back of the neck of the dress with the embroidered crowned dolphin, which appears on all the dresses in her special wardrobe for Corfu.

The Pink Gown

The Pink Gown, according to the museum in Austria, dates back to 1880. Back then, the women's movement was very popular, except for a brief period from 1878 to 1882, when the women’s movement briefly disappeared due to the very first attempts at female emancipation, when at that time black dresses were in fashion.

It is probable that someone made some changes to this dress so that the Princess could wear it all seasons.

The White Gown is the one worn by the young Elizabeth and it symbolises the purity and innocence of youth.

The designer

Mónika Czédly founded D’Elia Salon in 1989. It is a Hungarian family business that designs and creates unique gowns. Mónika Czédly is known for creating authentic replicas of Empress Elizabeth of Austria's clothes. Empress Elizabeth was considered one of the most beautiful women in the world and stood out for her style and her view on fashion, which was highly unconventional.

Mónika Czédly is now presenting her unique creations, authentic replicas of Sissy's gowns, at Haltburn Palace in Austria until 26 October 2022.
