CORFU. 22 August at 20:30 – a tribute to the distinguished musician and lecturer Dimos Dimitriadis
On Sunday 22 August the Achillion Palace will host a tribute to a distinguished musician and lecturer, who was and continues to be to a large extent the driving force behind the flourishing of jazz music in Greece!
Dimos Dimitriadis, a saxophonist of international repute, has been adding value to the island’s culture for several years with his presence and work. However, he does not limit his activity just to the Department of Music Studies, as he is also gets inspired by a long tradition of jazz musicians with authentic experiences in the places where jazz music came into being.
As a musician he has worked with important musicians of the younger and older generation in the USA such as Tim Hagans, Adam Nussbaum, Ron McClure, Sheila Jordan, Mark Murphy, Chico Freeman, Keith Copeland, Armen Donelian, JD Walter, Jonathan Kreisberg, Andy Middleton, Rick Peckam, Ricky Ford and Ran Blake, as well as from Europe and the Scandinavian countries such as Christy Doran, Erik Ineke, Ronan Guilfoyle, Francois Theberge, Bruno Tommaso, Charlie Miklin, Theodosii Spassov, Stephane Galland, Michel Hatzigeorgiou, Gianni Lenoci, Günter Sommer, Jarmo Savolainen, Jukkis Uottila.
For his artistic and academic activities, he was awarded the Artist/Scholar Grant by the Fulbright Foundation (2007). In 2013 and 2016 he was selected by Japan’s Inamori Foundation to join the jury for the Kyoto Prize in Music.
This special event is being organised by Hellenic Public Properties Company S.A. (ETAD) and Achillion Museum Administration and is taking place as part of “Achillion: Musical Events 2021”, on 22 August. The concert will take place in the courtyard of the Achillion Palace and tickets are €10.
