CORFU. The new “Friend of the Ionian University” title was awarded to Dr. Anastasios Xiarchos and the Corfu Hoteliers Association President Babis Voulgaris.

Ionian University’s graduation ceremony took place on Wednesday 25 May in front of the St. George Church at the Old Fortress.

For the first time in the University's history, the graduation ceremony took place in an outdoor area and, specifically, at a landmark of great historical and cultural value. The effort and the academic progress of the students was finally rewarded, while during the ceremony the help of their parents and the moral reward of the University's professors were emphasised.

Ionian University Dean Andreas Floros congratulated both the graduates for receiving a degree from a university that invests in quality and their relatives for their constant support during all these years with the economic crisis, the pandemic and the war.

The Dean also referred to the new institution of the “Friend of the University”, which was recently approved by the University, aiming to recognise the voluntary contribution of individuals who support the academic development of the Ionian University.

The “Friend of the Ionian University” title was awarded by the Dean to Dr. Anastasios Xiarchos and the Corfu Hoteliers Association President Babis Voulgaris for their contribution to the University's development and achievement of goals. They both thanked the Ionian University for this honour.

The choir and the vocal ensemble of the Ionian University Department of Music Studies performed choral versions of works by Michael Jackson and Duke Ellington, which were conducted by the Assistant Professor Dimitris Ktistakis. The approximately 80 students of the choir, accompanied by a four-member ensemble of jazz students, delighted the audience and contributed in a unique way to the ceremony's festive atmosphere.

Then, the graduation ceremony of the six Ionian University Departments in Corfu (Department of History, Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting, Department of Music Studies, Department of Audio and Visual Arts, Department of Archives, Library Science and Museum Studies and Department of Informatics) took place. The event closed with an impressive interactive audiovisual performance by the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, entitled "Journey". The performance was created exclusively for the graduation ceremony, under the artistic direction of the Department's professors Konstantinos Tiligadis, Haris Marinis and Apostolos Loufopoulos.

The Dean would like to thank all those involved in the planning and organisation of this special ceremony, as well as the Corfu Inspectorate of Antiquities for granting permission to organise it. With a high sense of responsibility and commitment to the continuous improvement of the quality of studies and academic life, he would like to congratulate the graduates and promises to always be by their side, supporting them in any professional or academic choice.
