CORFU. Corfu Town was full of people today for the Palm Sunday procession - a full procession this year after two years of pandemic restrictions.

Corfiots and thousands of visitors enjoyed the island's biggest procession with the sacred relics of St. Spyridon.

Corfu Town was all dressed up for this spectacular celebration, with all the island's philharmonic bands taking part.

The procession with St. Spyridon's sacred relics on Palm Sunday was established in 1630 in memory of the end of the plague in 1629, which the Church and believers attributed to the miraculous intervention of the island's patron saint.

It is the island's biggest procession with the sacred relics both in terms of duration and length - approximately the whole length of the town's old walls.

Following the procession, there was a service at St. Spyridon church led by Archbishop Nektarios.
