Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie’s song from the 80s was ‘reborn’ in Larissa and it is more relevant than ever.

The song was released on 7 March 1985 and it was destined to become a huge hit. ‘We are the World’ was the first charity song and was originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa for the children of Africa. The song was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie for the album ‘We are the world’.

More than 40 artists – including Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, Bruce Springsteen, Diana Ross and Paul Simon – shared the same microphone, the same pauses and the same lyrics, making history worldwide.

The song was ‘reborn’ through the initiative of 21 singers from Larissa, who joined forces to send a message of love, equality, peace and solidarity by performing this iconic song.

Their initiative started before the war in Ukraine, but the emotions caused by the refugees arriving in Greece made the video of the artists from Larissa more relevant than ever.

Their musical project is available on youtube. The producer George Bazanis wrote:

“At the dawn of 2022, 21 singers from Larissa/Greece came ‘together as one’ and did a remake of this iconic piece of music.

The message this song delivers is one of love, equality, peace and solidarity. Four things the world needs a lot of today.

Hope you enjoy!”.

The video editing is by Dimitris Vallas of lifeoffilm.gr and the performers from Larissa are the following:
