ATHENS. Fast-track granting of residence permits.
Refugees from Ukraine continue to come to Greece seeking safety wherever they have relatives and friends.
In response to the emergency situation, the EU is foregoing normal asylum procedures and, for the first time, using the fast-track procedure which was adopted 20 years ago following the war in Yugoslavia and which was incorporated in Greek law in 2006.
The Minister for Immigration and Asylum Notis Mitarakis told ERT that this is an emergency temporary residence permit for one year, which can be extended and immediately provides the right to work.
According to the Hellenic Police, in the last 24 hours 468 Ukrainian citizens entered Greece without any problems and according to prescribed entry procedures.
