Russian aircraft banned from Greek airspace

ATHENS. The bann applies to all Russian-owned, Russian registered or Russian-controlled aircraft, including private planes.

On Monday morning, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) issued a Notam banning all Russian aircraft from Greek airspace.

The ban comes into force following the decision of the EU to ban all Russian aircraft from its airspace due to the war in Ukraine.

The directive

- All Russian-owned, Russian registered or Russian-controlled aircraft are prohibited from landing, taking off, entering and passing through the national airspace of Greece.

- The aviation directive excludes flights of humanitarian interest, hospital flights and flights for search and rescue purposes with the approval of the Greek government as well as all emergency aircraft flights.

It will have a duration of three months and is in force from Monday, February 28.
