CORFU. Alpha Bank’s management did not change its opinion regarding the suspension of the Acharavi branch.

Τhe Bank has already issued a circular announcing that on 21 February the branch in Acharavi will close down. The closure of the bank has caused a strong reaction from the local community, as it is the only Alpha Bank branch in North Corfu and has been serving the needs of a tourist area with intense business activity for over two decades.

However, the bank's management has not changed its plan to shrink its network, even though many local authorities have attempted to prevent this from happening.

More specifically, ND MP Stefanos Gikas had sent a letter to the Minister of State Giorgos Gerapetritis and the Finance Minister Christos Staikouras, asking that every effort is made to maintain the Alpha Bank branch in Acharavi, which is an area that is developing quickly.

At the same time, the Regional Governor sent a letter and asked the Bank's management to respect the long-standing relationship with its customers and the local community of North Corfu and its needs, referring to the area’s continuous growth and the expected increase in tourism in Corfu.

The North Corfu Municipal Council and the Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris expressed their complete opposition, while the MPs Alexandros Avlonitis and Dimitris Biagis also tried to prevent it.
