CORFU. Orders were limited to very specific amounts as a lot of people had difficulty affording it.
There has been a 20% increase in demand for heating oil in Corfu due to the recent low temperatures. A lot of people, however, cannot afford to fill their tanks and just order a specific amount.
Corfu Petrol Dealers Association representative Antonis Sakkos told Enimerosi that demand began to increase over the festive season and has continued due to the cold weather.
"Demand has been 20% greater than for the same period in previous years," Mr. Sakkos said. "However, people have been sparing in their orders and are trying to get through the cold spell as economically as possible. In some cases, we are going back for a second order 10 days later."
Although there have been a lot of orders, they don't exceed 300 litres, with orders ranging from 100-300 litres. The maximum spend is €260-300.
"There is great demand but the quantities ordered are low and we are trying to serve people as best we can," he said.
Price
At the moment, the price per litre is €1.27-1.28 on average as there have been several increases recently. The increase in energy prices includes all fuels and unleaded petrol, for example, now costs as much as €1.83 per litre.
Firewood
Demand for the cheaper solution of firewood remains at the same level and, according to suppliers, the price per ton is around €100.
