CORFU. Corfu Hospital Covid Unit is operating beyond its capacity.

The Special Infectious Diseases Unit at Corfu Hospital is operating beyond its capacity with an average of 40-45 patients and sometimes as many as 50.

Medical staff has also been reduced with the transfer of the pulmonologist Manos Antonakis to the Covid Emergency Department. Following this transfer, according to reliable information received by Enimerosi, the Head of the Pulmonary Department communicated with the hospital administration and other responsible bodies stating that, with the current personnel, the Unit doesn't have the capacity for more than 30 Covid patients.

The original Covid Special Infectious Diseases Unit has already been extended to the Pulmonary wing, with non-Covid patients from there being transferred to the Pathology Department.

At the moment there are 6 doctors in the Special Infectious Diseases Unit, who are being asked to do 10-11 shifts a month. The written communication signed by the responsible Head of Department outlines clearly the limits of the medical personnel, who are having to respond to the situation with an unbearable number of work hours.

The intentions of the hospital administration are unclear as, according to what they say, the 6th Health Region does not allow them to inform the general public via the media of the serious health situation at the hospital.
