Corfu Hospital patient refuses to be intubated

CORFU. Covid ICU doctors find themselves in difficult position with a 60-year-old patient.

According to hospital sources, the 60-year-old patient refuses to be intubated. In line with medical guidelines, the hospital may take the appropriate action with a court order.

Just a few days ago there was another similar case, according to sources, with the refusal of another patient, but the situation was resolved when the family gave permission.

According to the latest information, a court order was not required. Doctors talked with the patient and were able to reassure him regarding his fears. He is being moved to the ICU so that a closer observation can be kept and will only be intubated if necessary.

Hospital under pressure

The Covid Units at Corfu Hospital remain under pressure and on Monday morning there were 42 patients in the Special Infectious Diseases Unit and Pulmonary Clinic. There were another 4 patients in the ICU.
