CORFU. Two Corfu EKAB (Hellenic Ambulance Service) employees have already gone through the necessary training.

Corfu EKAB is expected to receive a motorcycle ambulance. Following great pressure from the Ambulance Service Employees Union, as well as social demand, Corfu Ambulance Service will finally receive a vehicle that can meet the needs of the island.

In fact, two employees went to Athens last month, where they received the necessary training.

Now, the ambulance fleet will acquire the new vehicle that can respond to the increased traffic and the problematic road network.

According to all the assurances and commitments given to the Ambulance Service Employees Union, the motorcycle will be in Corfu from next Monday, November 8. The Union President Christos Kypriotis told Enimerosi that he is both optimistic and cautious: "This is the information we have so far (4 November), we are waiting for it to actually happen. We have made great efforts".

The motorcycles’ role

The biggest advantage is that a quick response in emergencies is ensured – especially in case of cardiac arrest – with increased chances of the person being saved.

In addition, they can complement ambulances, especially in case of accidents involving many victims.

Motorcycles are also valuable, since they have access to Corfu’s small and narrow roads.
