CORFU. Rehearsals have begun at schools ahead of the nation celebration.

The parade for the anniversary of 28 October, 1940 will go ahead as normal after two years. The public will be allowed at the parade, observing all the proper Covid health measures.

Ionian Islands Regional Administration is responsible for celebratory programme and an announcement is expected shortly, just like every year apart from last year, when parades didn't take place in Greece due to the pandemic.

The parade along Agoniston Polytechniou, Anapiron & Thymaton Polemou until the Old Palace will begin at 12:15 and scouts, pupils, security and armed forces will take part along with the Philharmonic Bands. A service will take place earlier in the morning led by Archbishop Nektarios at Spilaiotissis Metropolitan Church, with a reading by Emmanuel Drakakis from the Ionian University Department of Archives.

The Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa is expected to attend the parade for 28 October in Corfu but it is not yet known who will represent the government.

School rehearsals

Schools have already started having rehearsals for the parade and a circular is expected from the Ministry of Education regarding how the celebration will be conducted on a schoolday - Wednesday, 27 October.

Teachers told Enimerosi that it is most probable that the celebrations will be conducted in sections and not altogether as was done in the past, due to the pandemic.
