Increasing number of Corfu health personnel making vaccination appointments

COVID-19

CORFU. It will be known on Wednesday how many will be suspended. The hospital is under increasing pressure with both Covid Units in operation and 9 new admissions on Saturday.

Corfu Hospital is facing a serious problem - how many of its personnel will be vaccinated by 31 August? According to administrative sources, the signs are encouraging as increasing numbers of vaccination appointments are being made and, in the customary Greek manner, most appointments are for 31 August.

It is noteworthy, however, that a significant number of hospital workers are choosing to get their vaccination at the Mega Centre rather than the hospital.

There will be a clear picture on Wednesday morning, 1 September. Those who don't have a vaccination certificate will be suspended and their positions advertised in order to recruit replacements. It is obvious that due to the procedure, there will be a period of time in which there will be a shortage of staff. Administrative sources say, however, that most of the shortages will be amongst service personnel rather than actual health workers.

Covid Unit update

The situation at the Covid Unit continues to cause concern - just the other day there were 27 patients hospitalised! Today, Saturday 28th, there are 20 patients in the Special Infectious Diseases Unit and 2 in the ICU.

Also of concern is the trend that can be seen nationwide of more and more younger people, over the age of 25, being hospitalised.

On Saturday, there were 9 admissions of patients who had tested positive for Covid and required hospitalisation.

Both Covid Units at the hospital are in use in order to better distribute the patients.
