CORFU. The crowding at the August 11 procession caused reactions and comments.
Although the Police did not take any action on the same day, nor did it announce anything the following day, it issued a €1,500 fine for exceeding the limit of people during the religious ceremony.
It should be reminded that the Corfu Metropolitan Church had announced the day before that, due to Covid-19, the procession would not be as long as usual. Instead, there would only be a small procession around the church.
The crowding, however, caused concern and comments. The reaction of the Corfu SYRIZA MP Alekos Avlonitis is also worth mentioning, since he left the ceremony explaining that he did it for reasons of public health and responsibility.
