CORFU. On his visit to Corfu yesterday for the opening of Benitses Marina, Haris Theoharis answered questions about cruise passengers being kept in ΄bubbles΄.

Corfu businesses and professionals held a protest last Friday against the protocol of cruise passenger 'bubbles' which direct where visitors can go and don't allow them to wander freely and visit local businesses.

The Minister for Tourism Haris Theoharis said that bubbles play an important role. "In any case," he said, "these bubbles have been called for by doctors - neither by the Tourism Ministry nor the cruise ship companies. Many of the cruise ships visiting Corfu sail under the Italian flag. The Ministry is working with the local authority and the Italian Government so that there can be some relaxation of the measure."
