PATRAS. There is a little bit of optimism regarding the condition of the 27-year-old Corfu woman hospitalised at Patras University Hospital.

On Monday evening, following a discussion between hospital doctors in Patras and Corfu, her condition was said to be stable. She remains, however, intubated and in intensive care.

If conditions allow, university specialists will conduct thrombolysis on her, probably on Wednesday, in the hope that this will be successful.

The woman's condition had worsened on Sunday and Argyris Simeonidis, Professor of Haematology and head of the Haematological Clinic at Patras Hospital, said that there was extensive thrombosis in the abdominal blood vessels - something that is extremely rare. It is not being ruled out that it is a complication connected with the vaccination.

On Monday afternoon Argyris Simeonidis told Enimerosi: "Her condition is critical and we are doing the best we can."

Serious symptoms

The young woman had the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccination two weeks ago and a few days later came to Corfu Hospital Emergency Department with symptoms of gastroenteritis. She remained there for several hours but, despite the doctors' recommendation, she left by her own choice.

Not long after that, serious symptoms appeared - difficulty in movement, paralysis of limbs and falls - and she was admitted to Corfu Hospital. However, following examinations and treatment, her condition was judged to be especially serious and it was decided to transfer her to Patras Unniversity Hospital the next day.

It is considered important that from the moment the symptoms appeared the woman received the necessary treatment from staff at Corfu Hospital. According to the doctors, the young woman does not have any underlying health issues.
