ATHENS. The voucher will be issued via gov.gr and will be available by the first ten days of July. It can be used for travel, entrance to cultural events and archaeological sites.

A €150 voucher for vaccinated 18-25 year olds is the first 'privilege' announced by Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis as part of a programme of benefits for those who are vaccinated.

Secretary to the Prime Minister Akis Skertsos spoke first and presented the latest data for the vaccination programme. "Those who are safe are those who have been vaccinated," he said.

"After 16 months it seems that the country is winning the battle," the PM said referring to the fact that recession was kept under control and there is now gradual development.

He talked about the new 'privileges' and spoke to the approximately 900,000 18-25 year olds.

"The time has come to reward the 18-25 year olds. Following the first vaccine shot they will receive a €150 voucher to be used for travel, tickets, entrance to museums and concerts etc."

The voucher will be used via a mobile app.

With this 'digital wallet' young people will be able to better enjoy their holidays and cultural events the PM said and added that it was a gift to say thank you for their patience as well as being an incentive for young people, especially, to get vaccinated.

"At this time we have, for the first time, a significant number of appointments available and those who wish to can get vaccinated very quickly with whichever vaccine they want and consider best for them.

I would like to ask young people especially to grab this opportunity and book an appointment as soon as possible and take advantage of this extra benefit so that they can enjoy their holidays and relax, knowing that even with €150 the state is supporting and thanking them.

We would  like to thank you very much because we know that you have been through a lot without the financial support that other groups had," he said.

The Minister for Digital Governance Kyriakos Pierakakis said that the voucher, which he called a 'freedom pass', is available for those born between 1996 and 2003.

Theoharis: Vaccination is the only solution

Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis stressed that all age-groups need to get vaccinated. The voucher will make it easier for young people to travel and stay at holiday resorts.
