Nikos Hardalias in Corfu to inspect new Mega vaccination centre

CORFU. The Civil Protection Deputy Minister talked about the importance of the new centre and called on residents to get vaccinated so that immunity can be achieved.

This morning the Civil Protection Deputy Minister Nikos Hardalias visited the new Corfu Mega vaccination centre, which opens on Monday.


 
The Deputy Minister inspected the facility accompanied by ND MP Stefanos Gikas, Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa, Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Mayor Meropi Ydraiou, Deputy Regional Governor for Technical Works Manolis Orphanoudakis, Deputy Mayor for Technical Works Nikos Kalogeros, 6th Health Region Director Yiannis Karvelis, National Sports Centre Director Stamatis Likouris and Deputy Director Marilena Mastora and President of Corfu ND Yiannis Kontos.

Nikos Hardalias talked about the importance of the new centre and called on residents to get vaccinated so that immunity can be achieved and to adhere to the protective measures in order to avoid any spikes in cases especially once the tourist season is underway.



Mr. Hardalias also talked about the new epidemiological tool which the public can have access to via one online platform so that developments in the pandemic in their region can be continuously monitored and if things get out of hand, a local lockdown will be imposed for 10 - 20 days.

With regard to Greece's inclusion in the UK green list, he said that we need to have over 50% of people vaccinated at least once. To date there have been 3m vaccinations.



10 vaccination streams

The new Mega vaccination centre at Corfu National Sports Centre is part of the 'Blue Freedom' project and will have 10 vaccination streams with the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Preparation work began last Saturday and the facility opens on Monday 31 May. It will be staffed by 40 nurses and health visitors drafted in from the 6th Health Region and private doctors from Corfu.

The goal is to administer 1,000 vaccinations a day and the online platform to book an appointment has been available since 21 May.

This is the 7th Mega vaccination centre in Greece and is the responsibility of the Civil Protection Ministry in collaboration with the Health Ministry and the Armed Forces. The other 6 centres are in Maroussi, Peristeri, Ellinikon, Thessaloniki, Patra and Rhodes.



The new centre will be open 08:00 - 22:00 daily and police will be controlling road traffic to ensure safe access to the Sports Centre facility.
