CORFU. The hospital is on high alert as it sees the third wave getting stronger in Corfu. The situation in the Covid-19 unit may be under control with 11 patients but the prospects are not favourable.
This can be seen from the increase in the number of people, mainly elderly, coming to the Outpatient Department with symptoms and being diagnosed with Covid-19. If it isn't serious, they are told to go home and stay in quarantine in the hope that their condition won't worsen.
On Tuesday a 75-year-old Covid patient who had been in the ICU with serious underlying health conditions passed away.
Although the number of tests being conducted has increased, there is concern as some rapid tests which are negative then prove to be positive with a PCR test. This is thought to be possibly due to the mutations, which aren't traced as easily.
According to hospital sources, even if it is not included in the daily EODY reports, some positive samples are sent from Corfu to ascertain the virus strain.
