CORFU. "Ioannis Capodistrias, the Ionian Islands and the 1821 Revolution".

This year Greece is celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the Greek Revolution. Over the last two years the Capodistrias Museum and Centre for Capodistrian Studies has been conducting an important research programme "Ioannis Capodistrias, the Ionian Islands and the 1821 Revolution" which aims to highlight the Ionian Islands' contribution to the revolution.

To publicise the new digital and digitalised content, from March 2021 the Capodistrias Museum will publish characteristic samples of documentation on social media which will highlight the significance and wealth of material that has been researched and which is now available to the public.

It will show the documentation that has been added to the I. Capodistrias Digital Archive which have come from two important historical archives - the Archive of Capodistrias Incoming Documents and Ioannis-Baptistis Theotokis Archive which belong to the Corfu branch of the National Archives and are an important addition to the study of modern Greek history.

The social media posts will also link to the new digital app with the contribution of the Ionian Islands to the revolution on the Museum website. Visitors to the website will be able to discover interactively the important personalities from the Ionian Islands (such as Dionysios Romas, Andreas Moustoxidis, Gerasimos Pitzamanos, Isabella Theotoki, Dionysios Solomos, Marios Pieris, Stamatis Voulgaris and others) with their individual stories - how they studied, wrote, dreamt, worked and fought for the new country which appeared to be taking shape with the revolution. The main point of reference for this wide network of people was Ioannis Capodistrias.

The research programme "Ioannis Capodistrias, the Ionian Islands and the 1821 Revolution" is funded by the 'Ionian Islands 2014-2020' Business Programme.
