CORFU. Meropi Ydraiou - no extra costs for local residents.

The contract between the waste management facility DIADYMA and Corfu SYDISA (Solid Waste Management Association) for the transportation of waste from Corfu to Kozani has been approved by the Court of Auditors.

According to the Mayor's Office, the contract for waste transportation for the whole of 2021 will be signed in the next few days. Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Mayor and SYDISA President Meropi Ydraiou made it clear that the contract to be signed does not involve any additional costs for local residents.

The significant factor in the Court of Auditors' decision is the thinking behind it which points out that SYDISA conducted the study and tender procedure legally and in strict adherence to proper procedures, which is why the contract was approved without any observations.

Meropi Ydraiou made the following statement: "For the last 18 months the certainty that we have left behind us the nightmare with the rubbish has been continuously proved. Our goal was to transport the waste off the island, which was the only realistic solution, and we have achieved it. The Central Corfu Municipality always acts with respect for the law and there is no room for experimentation in waste management, which is a very serious matter. We have a plan and what we have accomplished can be measured and the comparison with the past is clear. We are here to provide solutions."
