ATHENS. "We have the entire technical framework in place to open on Monday 18 January and the decision will be taken by the Prime Minister," said the Commerce & Consumer Protection General Secretary Panayiotis Staboulidis.

The Commerce & Consumer Protection General Secretary said that the proposal will shortly be put forward for the opening of shops with "click away" and "click in shop" but the final decision lies with the Prime Minister.

"I believe we have already the formula and we must try it but on no account will public health be 'offset' in any way. This is something we will not discuss, with simple rules we can learn to live with this situation," Panayiotis Staboulidis told the AMNA radio station Praktorio FM.

He clarified that the necessary technical framework has now been developed to guarantee the smooth operation of the retail market from next Monday, using the online tools "click away" and "click in shop".

"We must support businesses and launch the operation of commerce with rules, one careful step at a time, in order for the Greek economy to start moving," he underlined, adding that "We are technically ready to put forward our proposal and open on Monday 18 January. The decision, however, will be taken by the Prime Minister and we must have the entire technical framework in place to ensure the smooth operation of the market."
