CORFU. Health workers who are in isolation due to contact with a positive case to be tested again on Wednesday - 12 in Infectious Diseases Unit and one man, 84 in ICU.

The situation with Covid-19 at Corfu General Hospital is considered to be under control. Due to the general lockdown the situation is beginning to improve as regards the number of new cases in Corfu as elsewhere.

There are 12 Covid patients in the Infectious Diseases Unit today, Monday 7 December, and an 84-year-old patient is intubated in the ICU. All of them are from Corfu and are from connected groups - a hospital source said, "At the moment we are looking after three families."

The three groups are from Acharavi, Agios Deka and a recent couple where a patient's escort tested positive and transmitted it to him.

This last case caused concern at the hospital about whether the virus had been transmitted to health workers, even though it was considered to be 'low risk' due t the health protocols and protective measures being observed at the hospital.

The first tests carried out on doctors and nurses came out negative and there will be repeat tests on Wednesday as provided for in EODY protocols. At the moment, the personnel are in isolation as a precaution.

The important thing is, as confirmed by hospital sources, that there is not a problem with the workload as the situation with all the Covid patients is under control.
